What is Hospice?
|
Hospice care provides compassionate care for people in the last phases of life-limiting
illnesses who have decided to discontinue curative treatment. It focuses on keeping
patients as comfortable as possible so they can continue an alert, pain-free life
filled with dignity and quality.
Hospice provides pain management and treatment for anxiety and other symptoms
related to the disease process, all under the direction of the patients' attending
physicians. Hospice also provides medication, medical supplies and equipment needed
to manage patients' symptoms.
At Open Arms Hospice, family involvement is strongly encouraged. Our patients
and their families are involved in making decisions, and we also provide support
for families and caregivers. We teach them what to expect based upon the patient's
condition, and we offer bereavement services to help them cope with feelings of grief.
